How to Apply for Financial Aid

Charles and Sue's School of Hair Design provides our students with this helpful guide for the Financial Aid application process.  Please read through the instructions carefully and we are certain you will be able to complete the process quickly and easily.  Of course, if you have questions, our experienced staff in the Financial Aid Office can assist you through the process.  Visit the office or call us at (979) 776-4375.

GETTING STARTED - GET YOUR FSA-ID ACCOUNT:

If you are new to the financial aid process, whether you're the student or the parent, you'll need to create your own account (username and password) to apply for, receive, and manage your federal student aid.  This account is referred to as your FSA-ID.  If you already have an FSA-ID account, you will not create a new one, just access the existing account with your username and password.

If you are unsure about which person should be considered your "parent" (aka your "contributor"), please discuss the situation with the Financial Aid Office.

To create your FSA-ID account, you'll need your Social Security number, full name (as it appears on your Social Security card), and date of birth.  Parents who do not have a Social Security number can create an account without one.  The process will ask you to create a memorable username and password, and to set up security questions and answers to help retrieve your sign-on information if you forget it.  Protect your username and password and don't lose them, because you will need them again - possibly for many years to come.

When you are ready, set up your FSA-ID account at the U.S. Department of Education's website at Create Your FSA-ID Account.

COMPLETE THE FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA):

One of the uses of your FSA-ID is to serve as your identification for completing the FAFSA.  You will need to complete a new FAFSA for each new school year.  If you are unsure whether you need to do a new application, or which FAFSA application year (school year) is the right one for you, contact the Financial Aid Office at (979) 776-4375.  We'll be glad to help.

The FAFSA is 100% on-line and walks you step-by-step through the questions you need to answer.  There is also on-line help to answer many of your questions.  The first step of the application will ask both you (the student) and your parent to consent to automatically downloading your income information from the IRS to your FAFSA, so you won't need copies of your tax returns or other tax documents.  Be sure to add Charles and Sue's School of Hair Design's School Code: 012930 to ensure that we get your information.

For "Dependent Students", at least one parent/contributor will also need to sign in separately and submit their part of the application information.

When you are ready to get started, go to the FAFSA application website at FAFSA Application Page.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Once you have completed your FAFSA, the Financial Aid Office should receive your data within about two business days.  You will also be able to access your own data from the Federal Student Aid website.  The Financial Aid Office will review your FAFSA data, and let you know if there are any issues and if you need to provide additional information and/or documentation.

Verification:

Sometimes a student's application may be flagged by the federal FAFSA processor for additional review in a process known as 'Verification'.  If your application is selected, the Financial Aid Office may request certain forms and documents to ascertain the accuracy of your FAFSA data.  The deadline for submitting any required documentation is thirty (30) calendar days after the Financial Aid Office notifies you, but an extension may be granted if you are having trouble collecting the documents.  Failure to submit the requested documents by the deadline will result in a "hold" on your financial aid processing - which may result in loss of financial aid eligibility and/or an unpaid balance due on your student account.  An unpaid balance on your student account may result in suspension or termination of your enrollment.

Your Financial Aid Offer:

Once your FAFSA data has been received and any necessary documentation has been submitted and reviewed by the Financial Aid Office you will receive a "Financial Aid Offer Letter".  Your Offer Letter will detail your cost of attendance and the financial aid you may be eligible for at Charles and Sue's.  Additional information about the specifics of each aid program offered, and additional financing options are available through this Financial Aid Information website or by speaking with our friendly staff in the Financial Aid Office.
